SENECA THE ELDER°

SENECA THE ELDER°
SENECA THE ELDER° (Annaeus Seneca; c. 55 B.C.E.–40 C.E.), Roman rhetorician. He was the father of Seneca the Younger, the philosopher, and the grandfather of the poet Lucan.   He mentions a Sosius who had suppressed the Jews (Suasoria 2:21). There are grounds for believing that this was the Gaius Sosius who had supported Herod against antigonus . (Jacob Petroff)

Encyclopedia Judaica. 1971.
